What Are Chemical Peel Treatments?

A chemical peel is a chemical skin resurfacing and exfoliating technique that selectively removes the top layer of the skin. When the chemical solution “peels off” the outer layers of the skin, the new skin that grows is brighter and smoother. At Essential Aesthetics, we offer different chemical peels, ranging from superficial to deep, depending on your skin concerns.

Types of SkinMedica Peels We Offer

We offer the following peels:

Illuminize Peel

The gentlest of the peels, Illuminize, is best for your first experience. The treatment will remove minor skin imperfections, leaving you with brighter skin—and no downtime.

Vitalize Peel

Appropriate for all skin types, Vitalize improves pigmentation and smooths away signs of aging, including melasma. A series of treatments yields the best result.

Rejuvenize Peel

Once your skin has become tolerant of the Vitalize peel, the Rejuvenize formulation can go deeper to improve wrinkles and fine lines, uneven tone or texture, and acne scarring.

In other cases, you may also want to consider laser services or other resurfacing options.

What are the Benefits of Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels can be used virtually anywhere on the body to help erase or reduce the appearance of a wide range of skin ailments such as:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Signs of aging
  • Skin discolorations
  • Blotchiness
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots, brown spots, and freckles
  • Light scarring
  • Melasma

Am I A Candidate

Chemical peel procedures are suitable for those of all skin colors and textures. However, it is important to note that there is a higher risk for hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation in patients with darker skin tones. Chemical peels are not recommended for those with:

  • Active skin disease or infection
  • Sunburn
  • Broken skin or cuts
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Rosacea
  • Dermatitis

Are Chemical Peel Results Permanent

Since your skin continues to age and change, chemical peel results are temporary. It is important to continue maintenance sessions after completing your series of treatments. The number of maintenance sessions needed depends on the strength of the chemical peel you have received.

It is important to continue with the recommended skincare regimen after your treatments in order to maintain the best results.

Your Experience

At Essential Aesthetics, we customize your chemical peel treatment to make sure we precisely treat your specific concerns. Your consultation is a good opportunity to learn exactly what to expect so that you can plan your treatment day accordingly. Depending on your goals, multiple treatment sessions may be recommended.

During your appointment, Ellie Zarnegar, PA, DMSc, prepares the peel and lightly brushes it on your skin, layer by layer, before removing it. Depending on the strength of the chemical peel, your skin may physically slough off over the next few days, or you may simply see an improved complexion.
