Dark Eye Circle Treatment

Dark Eye Circle Treatment in Danville CA

As we age, dark under-eye circles become increasingly common. Unfortunately, this often leaves people searching for solutions and ultimately being disappointed by the few over-the-counter “remedies” available.

However, the news isn’t all doom-and-gloom. We actually have several dark circle treatment options that can effectively reduce the appearance of a shadowy under-eye area.

Keep reading to learn what causes dark circles, which treatment options we offer at Essential Aesthetics, and how you can schedule a complimentary consultation at our office.

Common Causes of Dark Under-Eye Circles

There are actually a number of different causes of dark under-eye circles, including:

  •       Lack of sleep
  •       Thin under-eye skin
  •       Hyperpigmentation
  •       Anemia
  •       Aging
  •       Smoking
  •       Genetics
  •       Dehydration
  •       Dermatitis
  •       Thyroid Conditions

People at increased risk are those who are older, individuals of non-white ethnicity, and those with a family history of dark circles.

Treatment Options for Dark Circles

If cold cucumber slices under-your eyes just aren’t cutting it, you’ll be pleased to know we have a number of options for treating your dark circles here at Essential Aesthetics.

In fact, we have four great dark circle treatment options including IPL, Botox, dermal fillers, and chemical peels.

Your Experience with IPL
Under-eye circles caused by excessive melanin or prominent blood capillaries can be treated with IPL or Intense Pulsed Light. During IPL treatment, multiple different wavelengths of light are used on the skin, causing capillaries to go away entirely or diminish in size.

IPL also breaks down melanin beneath the skin into tiny particles. These particles naturally get carried away by the body’s lymphatic system, making IPL an effective treatment for dark circles in light-skinned patients.

During IPL, Clinical Director “Ellie” Zarnegar will first apply a special gel beneath your eyes to regulate your skin’s temperature.

Then, she’ll guide light energy into your under-eye area, using an IPL handpiece. Although the experience isn’t painful, you may feel a mild stinging.

The entire IPL session can be completed in just 15-20 minutes. Afterward, you’ll experience no downtime and can resume normal activities immediately.

In the days to follow, the skin may appear red or swollen. This is a normal part of the healing process.  Afterward, your dark circles will have diminished, although you may require 1-3 treatments to achieve the results you want.

Your Experience with Botox
At Essential Aesthetics, Botox can be used to make the lower eyelid appear plumper and fuller. As a  result, light hits the under-eye area differently, minimizing the appearance of dark circles.

During your Botox appointment, Clinical Director “Ellie” Zarnegar will cleanse your skin before making injections in the affected area. The procedure is a fast, painless one.

You’ll notice full results within two weeks. You can expect those results to last between 3-4 months.

Your Experience with Chemical Peels
A chemical peel might be just what the doctor ordered to treat your under-eye circles.

During a peel, Clinical Director “Ellie” Zarnegar will prepare the peel, before gently brushing it over your skin in layers. Afterward, she’ll start the process of removing the peel.

If you opt for a lighter peel, you’ll notice improvement immediately. With stronger peels, you can expect the skin to slough off for a few days before you achieve your desired results.

Your Experience with Dermal Fillers
Thinner fat pads beneath the eyes can make the under-eye area appear dark. With dermal fillers, we can “plump up” this area, minimizing the appearance of dark circles.

During your dermal filler appointment, Clinical Director “Ellie” Zarnegar will inject Juvéderm or Restylane beneath your eyes, adding volume to the under-eye area with a gel-based hyaluronic acid filler.

You’ll notice an improvement in the area immediately. Typically, results last between 9-12 months.
