Would you like to turn back time 10-15 years? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved treatment that stimulates collagen, gradually giving you a more youthful appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra Aesthetic is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)-based treatment. Once injected, it begins working deep within the skin to stimulate collagen production, reinforcing the skins’ inner structure and restoring its volume. Sculptra Aesthetic works subtly and gradually over time for results that can last more than two years.
Why Is Collagen Important
Age-induced collagen loss weakens your skin’s inner structure, reducing its ability to maintain elasticity and moisture. This weakened inner structure can lead to lines, wrinkles, and folds, as well as a loss of skin volume and support. Dermal fillers address only lines, wrinkles, and folds not collagen loss or skin structure.
What is Sculptra Aesthetic?
Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable that’s comprised of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid. Poly-L-lactic acid contains microparticles that once absorbed by the skin’s deeper layers, revitalize collagen production.
This procedure is especially effective for combating signs of aging because, as we get older, we lose collagen. Unfortunately, this collagen loss causes the skin to grow thinner and less elastic. It also increases facial wrinkles and sagging.
With Sculptra Aesthetic, collagen begins to rebuild slowly and steadily. As a result, facial volume is restored and fullness is added to wrinkles and folds, smoothing them out significantly.
What Sculptra Aesthetic Can Treat
Sculptra Aesthetic is used to treat shallow to deep facial wrinkles. Specifically, it can improve the look of nasolabial folds (the lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth), marionette lines (the lines running from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and chin wrinkles.
Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, stimulating collagen production. These rebuilt collagen strands begin to gradual help restore facial volume. Sculptra Aesthetic works using the three R’s:
- Replace – injectible PLLA (the main component in Sculptra Aesthetic) works to stimulate the growth of lost collagen
- Restore – naturally stimulated collagen provides a foundation that gradually helps restore fullness by correcting shallow to deep nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles and folds
- Refine – This results in correction of these facial wrinkles and folds that help provide a more refined appearance that can last more than 2 years.
How Long Does Sculptra Aesthetic Last
On average, most patients receive three injections of Sculptra Aesthetic over the course of a few months. Your actual number of injections may vary, depending on your treatment goals and the degree of correction needed.
With Sculptra Aesthetic, your results will emerge gradually, so you won’t look like you’ve had any work done immediately following an injection. However, as collagen growth is stimulated, you’ll gradually begin to notice a more youthful appearance.
You’ll experience your desired results with an average of three treatment sessions, over the course of a few months. Those results can last more than two years.
Who is Sculptra Aesthetic For?
Do you want to:
- Treat more than just wrinkles, lines, and folds?
- Have subtle results that emerge gradually over time?
- Address an underlying cause of facial aging?
- Achieve a full-face rejuvenation?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then Sculptra Aesthetic may be right for you.
Sculptra Aesthetic is for men and women who want to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkling and volume loss. Most patients who undergo the procedure are between the ages of 30-65.
If you’re in good medical health, you’re probably a good candidate for Sculptra Aesthetic. However, be aware that people who are pregnant, nursing, or prone to irregular scarring (like keloids and hypertrophic scars) should not undergo Sculptra Aesthetic injections.
The best way to know for sure whether you’re a good candidate for Sculptra Aesthetic is to come in for a complimentary consultation. During your appointment, Ellie will evaluate your medical history, budget, and treatment goals to determine if Sculptra Aesthetic is right for you.
Your Experience with Sculptra Aesthetic
During your complimentary appointment, Ellie will evaluate whether you’re a good candidate for Sculptra Aesthetic. If you are, she’ll make a treatment plan, determining how many injections you’ll need to obtain your desired results. Most patients require three injections, spaced several weeks apart.
When you come in for a Sculptra Aesthetic injection, Ellie will map the injection sites on your skin, clean the areas to be injected, and apply a topical anesthetic. Then, she’ll inject Sculptra Aesthetic beneath the skin. That entire process typically takes between 30-45 minutes.
Afterward, you can immediately resume your normal activities, although we advise you to hold off on exercise and alcohol for the first 24 hours.
You may notice some redness, mild swelling, bruising, or facial tenderness after treatment. You can minimize these effects by periodically applying an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to your face over the 24 hours following your appointment.
Side effects are typically mild and short-lived, which is one reason Sculptra Aesthetic patients have such a high satisfaction rate. In fact, 80% of them rate their results with Sculptra Aesthetic as “good” or “excellent” 25 months after treatment!
What to Expect After Treatment
After treatment it is important to remember the Rule of 5 – massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day for 5 days after your treatment. Within the first 24 hours after treatment, apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in cloth (avoid putting ice directly on the skin) to the treatment area to help reduce swelling. You may apply makeup a few hours after treatment if no complications are present, such as open wounds or bleeding. Avoid excessive sun and UV sunlamp exposure until swelling and redness have disappeared.
