Double Chin Treatment
Are you feeling down about your double chin? Do you deliberately pose with your head slightly forward, so you can minimize your chin’s appearance in photos? Do you feel like despite your best efforts, there’s nothing you can do to keep chin fat at bay?
If any of these scenarios describe you, you’re definitely going to want to keep reading, because there is (non-surgical!) help for double chins. You just need a medical expert to point you in the right direction, and we’re happy to fulfill that role!
Common Causes of a Double Chin
A double chin is a layer of fat that appears directly underneath the chin. There are several different reasons someone might develop a double chin. These include:
- Age – The older we get, the more elasticity our skin loses. As our skin becomes less elastic, it starts to sag, creating the appearance of a double chin.
- Weight Gain – Although weight gain doesn’t always cause a double chin, it can definitely contribute to one. So, a diet that’s heavy on processed foods—and light on fruits and vegetables—may lead to weight gain and the dreaded double chin.
- Genetics – Your genes play a role in where excess fat is stored on your body. So, if your mom or dad has a double chin, you’re at greater risk of developing one yourself.
- Bad Posture – Prone to slouching? If so, you’re weakening the muscles in your neck and chin. Unfortunately, over time, your bad posture can lead to a double chin, since the skin becomes less elastic when the muscles surrounding it go unused.
Treatment for a Double Chin
Fortunately, we have a treatment for double chins that is remarkably effective. It’s called Kybella. Kybella is an FDA-approved injection that uses deoxycholic acid to safely dissolve unwanted fat.
And, as amazing as that may sound, the news gets even better. Unlike many other cosmetic procedures available today, Kybella lasts for a lifetime if you maintain a healthy weight.
Your Experience with Kybella
If you’re interested in having your double chin treated, your first step is to come in for a complimentary consultation with our certified physician assistant, Elham “Ellie” Zarnegar. She’ll evaluate whether you’re a good Kybella candidate.
If she decides you are, Ellie will create a Kybella treatment plan. For most patients, she typically recommends 2-4 Kybella treatments, spaced about a month apart. Each treatment will get you closer to the svelte jawline you desire.
During your Kybella appointments, Ellie will gently clean the surface of your skin. Then, she’ll make a series of injections in a grid-like pattern beneath your chin. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes.
Unlike a surgical double chin removal, the Kybella procedure requires no special aftercare. You may, however, notice some mild side effects like pain, swelling, bruising, redness, or numbness. Usually, these minor side effects are most noticeable in the day or two following treatment, although they may take as long as 1-2 weeks to fully reside.
To minimize swelling, we recommend avoiding salt and alcohol a couple days before and after your treatment. Also, you’ll want to make sure you drink enough water. And, for bonus points, we suggest applying an ice pack intermittently for a few hours after your Kybella appointment.
Good Candidates for Kybella
Both men and women make great candidates for Kybella. We regularly treat both in our office.
The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for double chin treatment with Kybella is to schedule a complimentary consultation. During your appointment, we’ll examine your chin and review your medical history, so we can determine whether Kybella is a good fit for you.
